Phoenix just set a November heat record. How hot will December get?
It’s officially December — and it’s still set to be over 80 degrees on Wednesday.
This has been a really warm winter so far. In fact, we broke the record for the number of 80-degree-plus days for the month of November. As the mercury crept up Nov. 30, the Valley recorded 25 days over 80 degrees — the most in a November since 1949.
And more records may be broken if we hit Wednesday's forecast high of 83 degrees.
“For the last day of November we ended up reaching a high of 80 degrees. And so with that we ended up breaking the record for most 80-plus-degree temperatures for the month of November," said meteorologist Isaac Smith with the National Weather Service.
Why is this happening? And is there any relief in sight?
To learn about the hot streak, The Show spoke with Matt Pace, meteorologist with the Arizona Department of Environmental Quality.
November 2021 is in the books, and quite obviously it was a warm month. The average high temperature was the highest on record for Phoenix. Yuma had the 3rd warmest average high, while El Centro came in at second warmest. #azwx #cawx pic.twitter.com/g5KvlbfHZy— NWS Phoenix (@NWSPhoenix) December 1, 2021
