The Arizona Lottery set a sales record in its fiscal year that ended June 30. Consumers bought $1.4 billion worth of tickets. That’s 30% more than the year before. 

Close to $978 million went to prizes and more than $98 million to retailer commissions. According to an audit, Scratchers game sales dominate the market share, capturing more than a billion dollars. 

Arizona has more than 3,000 retail locations and every store receives a 6.5% commission on all lottery sales, one of the highest commission rates in the country, according to the Arizona Lottery. There are also opportunities to earn additional incentives through promotions. 

Retailers that sell prize winning tickets worth $1 million or can receive up to $50,000. In the last fiscal year, the Arizona Lottery said those bonuses totaled $708,000.

The Arizona Lottery said almost $288 million will benefit various programs and services through 13 state agencies. State law dictates how lottery sales directly fund agencies and programs. 

The Arizona Lottery’s annual report shows the funds getting the most money are: the state’s general fund ($195.2 million), the university bond fund ($37.9 million) and the healthy Arizona fund ($22.2 million), which is administered by the Arizona Department of Health Services
