The Sol Power hip-hop festival at ASU's Tempe campus.

All week at Arizona State University, SolPower has been celebrating hip-hop culture with events all over campus, and it all culminates this weekend with dance battles, DJs, dancers and more — including a first-of-its-kind collaboration Nov. 21 between the ASU Symphony and internationally-renowned graffiti artists Lalo Cota and Thomas “Breeze” Marcus.

The Show caught up with ASU dance professor and b-boy, or breaker, Edson “Bboy House” Magana, who organized the festival. House has been involved in hip-hop since the early '80s, and he’s managed to make it into an academic career — one that’s taken him around the world teaching people about hip-hop.

The Show spoke with him about Sol Power, but first started the conversation to learn a little about him.
