Ethics concerns raised after Arizona nonprofit employs Democratic lawmakers

Periodically, Arizona lawmakers will consider tightening ethics rules on themselves. Most recently, that was in 2018 when then-House member Don Shooter was voted out by his colleagues following accusations of sexual harassment.

But even with that consideration, not much has changed in the general ethical realm. That's what Arizona Republic reporter Ray Stern discovered when he learned that four Democratic members of the Arizona House were being employed by Chicanos Por La Causa, an organization that could be impacted by legislative decisions. That raised concerns among some about a possible conflict of interest.
