A settlement has been reached in Arizona’s consumer fraud case against a Scottsdale doctor accused of taking money from Insys Therapeutics to prescribe a certain opioid.

Steve Fanto was also alleged to have been paid by the now-defunct company for making presentations about the addictive drug.

Fanto would agree to pay the state about $400,000.

Around $250,000 of the total is what state investigators say Fanto was paid by Insys over roughly three years. Civil fines make up the rest of what he’d owe, if a judge approves the settlement.

Insys Therapeutics was based in Chandler.

The deal repeatedly says that Fanto admits no guilt or liability.

The drug he allegedly took money to push and prescribe was called Subsys, and it contained fentanyl.

The Arizona Attorney General’s Office promises to keep holding accountable those who profited from the opioid crisis.
