Hotels in both Phoenix and Arizona as a whole have lost hundreds of millions of dollars in revenue because of the pandemic.

Numbers from the American Hotel and Lodging Association show Phoenix hotels’ revenues are down nearly 72% in 2021 compared to 2019; that amounts to more than $969 million. For the state, the revenue difference between this year and 2019 is more than $1.3 billion.

But those losses are smaller than those of other cities and states, compared to pre-pandemic levels.

Ron Price is president and CEO of Visit Phoenix, the convention and visitors bureau for the Greater Phoenix area. The Show spoke with him to learn what he makes of the numbers.
