Displaced Hurricane Ida pets have arrived at the Arizona Humane Society.

An animal rescue group known as Louisiana SPCA needed to transfer the pets because the shelter had power outages, fuel shortages and a limited number of resources.

Arizona Humane Society spokeswoman Bretta Nelson says six staff members met with Louisiana SPCA in El Paso, Texas, last Friday to transfer 26 dogs and 14 cats into the care of AHS.

“Louisiana Humane Society reached out for us to help. We were able to go and look and the pets that we brought in from Louisiana SPCA were considered high priority. Meaning that they were living without any power so it was really dire stress in the need to get them out of Louisiana,” said Nelson.

Nelson urged people to check their social media accounts for updates about adoptable pets.
