As the U.S. continues its evacuation in Afghanistan, the future of an educational program that was designed to economically empower Afghan women is uncertain.

Project Artemis led by Thunderbird School of Global Management at Arizona State University teaches how to improve business skills and help create sustainable prosperity, according to Thunderbird Dean Sanjeev Khagram.

“If past behavior is a great predictor of future behavior, it’s going to be very difficult conditions. The future of our initiatives in Afghanistan is very much in doubt. We have an alumni of about 500 that graduated from the program. Our first order of business is trying to help them,” Khagram said in a recent episode on PBS’s “Arizona Horizon.”

While the future of Project Artemis remains uncertain, the general atmosphere for Afghan women and young girls will be certainly problematic as the Taliban takeover continues, according to Khagram.
