The Painted Desert in Petrified Forest National Park is protected the Land and Water Conservation Fund.

Arizona is teeming with natural wonders, and the state has three national parks — Grand Canyon, Saguaro and Petrified Forest — in addition to many national monuments and historic sites.

The August issue of Arizona Highways is devoted to those national parks and some of the other spots, too.

There are itineraries for spending a weekend at Saguaro National Park and Petrified Forest National Park, as well as full week at Grand Canyon.

Writer Annette McGivney composed those pieces. The Show spoke with her to learn about what to see — and how to see them in the best possible way — in Arizona.
