Vaccinated Arizona State Lawmaker Tests Positive For COVID-19
A vaccinated Arizona state lawmaker announced Tuesday that he has tested positive for COVID-19.
Through a spokesperson, Sen. Tony Navarrete said two tests confirmed the diagnosis last week. The Phoenix Democrat, who was vaccinated in February, is experiencing mild symptoms while isolating at home.
Navarette said his diagnosis should serve as a reminder for Arizonans to stay vigilant.
“I know people are tired and frustrated, but it’s time to mask up again,” he said in a statement. “The best defense is getting the vaccine and masking up in public, crowded spaces.”
Navarrete is now the second Arizona lawmaker to confirm a positive COVID-19 test even after being vaccinated. Rep. Alma Hernandez, a Tucson Democrat, announced her own diagnosis in April, 11 weeks after her vaccination.
