State Has Lottery For New Licenses For Adult-Use Marijuana In Rural Arizona

The state Department of Health Services had a drawing for adult-use marijuana dispensary licenses in rural Arizona on Monday.

Rural Arizona was underserved when the state legalized medical marijuana. That shortage of dispensaries was addressed when voters approved recreational marijuana in November.

Those licenses were awarded through a drawing similar to a lottery, in which numbered ping-pong balls were placed in a machine and blown around before a winner was selected.

Winners of the 13 licenses will be announced on the ADHS website.
