Dr. Cara Christ explains June 4, 2020, why Arizona has seen an increase in COVID-19 cases.

Dr. Cara Christ, Arizona Department of Health Services director, is weighing in on so-called vaccine passports —  documented proof of vaccination that could be required by businesses and governments.

She addressed the topic during her weekly press conference on COVID-19 on Friday.

“I’m fine with people knowing my vaccination status. But, there are individuals who want to keep their health information private,” said Christ. 

Although portable vaccine records are not a new concept, especially for international travelers, much of the discussion surrounding COVID-19 passports is focused on digital records, possibly involving QR codes.

The idea has launched intense debates pitting privacy against public safety. Arizona Congressman Andy Biggs was one of 19 Republicans in the U.S. House who co-sponsored a bill this week that would prohibit federal agencies from requiring COVID-19 vaccine passports.
