A new state-run COVID-19 vaccination site is opening later this month in the north Valley, Gov. Doug Ducey and the Arizona Department of Health Services announced Monday. 

The new site at the WestWorld exhibition center in Scottsdale will open on April 22. The site will offer up to 4,000 appointments per day initially, but has capacity for up to 10,000 daily. It will operate from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. and will have walk-in and walk-up appointments. 

“With its freeway access, proximity to tribal communities and extensive indoor facilities, WestWorld is an ideal location for expanding the footprint of state-run vaccination sites in the region,” said Health Services Director Dr. Cara Christ. 

It’s made possible through a partnership of Health Services, Cigna and the city of Scottsdale. Cigna, a global health service company, will handle day-to-day operations of the site, including clinical staffing and pharmacy services. The city is providing the WestWorld facility as a vaccination site through June 30. 

The new site is part of the state’s effort to transition away from outdoor sites as the weather warms up.

Health Services is moving its mass vaccination site at State Farm Stadium in Glendale to the nearby Gila River Arena later this month. The department is also looking for an alternative site for its operations at Phoenix Municipal Stadium, Christ said.
