NAU's New President On New Position, Higher Education During The Pandemic

On March 10, 2021, the Arizona Board of Regents approved the contract and appointment of José Luis Cruz as NAU's 17th president.

The world of higher education is undergoing dramatic shifts as sources of funding have changed, the need for a degree is growing and the need to offer more opportunities to a diverse population is a higher priority. And the pandemic has introduced new challenges and, possibly, more innovation.

It’s into this environment that new Northern Arizona University President Jose Luiz Cruz is coming into from his current position as executive vice chancellor and university provost at the City University of New York.

The Show spoke with him and began the conversation by asking what excited him about the opportunity to move across the country to take over the leadership of NAU.
