With COVID-19 cases continuing to trend downward in the state and on the University of Arizona campus, the school announced Monday that it will take the next step in its reopening plan. 

The university is looking to start in-person instruction for classes of up to 100 students by the end of the month. Currently only classes of up to 50 students are allowed to meet in person. 

“We’ve had a couple of weeks of stable data, there’s plenty of resources in the community should things turn, but we are also counting on all of the students, faculty and staff continuing to do those good public health practices," said former U.S. Surgeon General Dr. Richard Carmona, who's leading the university reentry task force.

The decision to expand in-person instruction was made with the support of the university’s public health advisory team, he added. 

However, the university will continue to restrict sizes of indoor and outdoor events on campus.
