Arizona could become the first state in the country to allow app developers to use a third-party payment system, rather than the ones provided by Apple or Google.

Supporters say House Bill 2005 would free app developers from the 15-30% cut the tech giants take from each app purchase, while critics, including Apple and Google, say the measure forces the tech firms to essentially give away their products for free.

The bill has cleared the state House and is awaiting action in the Senate.

For more about the bill, The Show spoke with Emily Birnbaum, tech policy reporter for Protocol, a tech-focused publication.
