Special Forces will be gathering in several southwestern states, including Arizona, for a large-scale training operation. It’s been generating some controversy, especially in Texas.

Dylan Baddour is a reporter for the Houston Chronicle and has been following this issue. We asked him what is this Jade Helm operation and why it is generating such attention.

Arizona will play a much more limited role in the exercise. Captain Matthew Murphy of the Arizona National Guard said only about a dozen participants will be in and out of the state of Arizona from the Special Operations Command of the Army.

Captain Murphy said the military runs operations like this on a smaller scale all throughout the year. He said it's about different agencies being able to cooperate in the event of a national emergency.
