Be Careful What You Wish For: Rep. Kavanagh Warns Arizona GOP Colleagues About Ending Emergency Order
The Arizona Department of Health Services reported nearly 3,000 new coronavirus infections and 238 deaths Feb. 2.
Gov. Doug Ducey declared a state of emergency in Arizona due to the coronavirus pandemic last March; that order is still in effect. But, some Republican state lawmakers say they think it’s gone on for long enough and want to end it.
For his part, the governor says he’s open to looking into ways to improve the laws around a governor’s emergency powers, but is not open to doing it right now while the pandemic continues.
Longtime Republican lawmaker Rep. John Kavanagh is warning his colleagues that ending the current emergency order may not have the results they want. The Show spoke with Rep. Kavanagh about how he thinks the governor has handled the situation.
