Progressives See Opportunities In Rural Arizona

The past two election cycles have taught us that voters in Maricopa County are increasingly turning toward Democratic candidates — certainly at a much higher rate than they have in decades.

Since Republicans continue to hold majorities — though slim — in the Arizona House and Senate, the presumption is made that the GOP is becoming stronger in rural parts of Arizona.

But is that true? Do progressives have opportunities in rural areas of the state and the rest of the country?

Rural policy experts and leaders took part in a webinar discussion about that Dec. 16.

The Show spoke with one of the participants — Tara Benally of the Rural Utah Project — about some of the ideas and conclusions.
