With voters approving Proposition 207, recreational marijuana will soon be legal in Arizona. While regulation is still underway, government offices throughout the state are trying to quickly implement the will of the people. One of the first counties to take action is Gila County. 

As of Nov. 16, the Gila County Attorney’s Office has advised all law enforcement agents to not charge anyone over the age of 21 for the possession of less than an ounce of marijuana.

This is an attempt to implement Prop. 207 as quickly as possible.

The ballot measure has two deadlines pertaining to marijuana offenses. 

The first deadline — on Nov. 30 — will end marijuana arrests for possession, cultivation and transportation of 2.5 ounces of marijuana or six plants.

The second deadline involves marijuana-related convictions. There will be a legal window for expungements related to consumption, possession, cultivation and transportation of 2.5 ounces or less or six plants. That deadline is July 12, 2021.
