The Phoenix City Council rarely approves anything unanimously right now. But on Oct. 27, they all agreed on a plan to address the mounting homelessness crisis in our region.

The plan was requested by Mayor Kate Gallego earlier this year and calls for a more regional approach to the problem, which Gallego has said sits too squarely on the shoulders of Phoenix. It also attempts to get at the root problems of homelessness, like affordable housing and mental health.

Jessica Boehm covers homelessness and housing insecurity for the Arizona Republic.  The Show spoke with her more about it, and why these changes are coming now.
