The Madison Elementary School District in Phoenix is asking all students and staff of the Madison No. 1 middle school to quarantine for 14 days starting Monday, it said in a Friday letter to families. The school has four confirmed COVID-19 cases, according to the district's COVID-19 data dashboard

The district made this decision after consulting with the Maricopa County Department of Public Health, it said in the letter.

The campus has about 950 students, about half of whom are learning in-person. The district said it's likely that students came into contact with the infected individuals and encourages parents to watch for symptoms.

The district is expecting to have students and staff return to the school on Monday, Nov. 9, unless the department recommends extending the quarantine period. All students will be learning from home in the meantime.

There are 33 COVID-19 outbreaks in schools in the area, according to the county health department.
