Arizona Winnows Down List Of Independent Redistricting Commission Candidates
Fifty-one Arizonans will be considered for the Independent Redistricting Commission (IRC), the group tasked with redrawing the state’s congressional and legislative district lines.
Two Democrats and two Republicans will eventually be selected by legislative leaders to serve, and those four will then get to choose the independent chair of the IRC. That’s a key position because the chair acts as the swing vote if their partisan colleagues become deadlocked.
But just how independent the chair really is has been up for debate for years.
The Show spoke with Jeremy Duda of the Arizona Mirror for more about the pool this time around.
