Intersections on Glendale Avenue, between Central and the 51 in Phoenix, have a new kind of traffic signal.

A company called No Traffic has installed AI-based “smart” traffic lights at the intersections as part of a pilot project that officials hope will help traffic move more smoothly and efficiently.

The Show spoke with Vladimir Livshits, director of Transportation Technologies and Services at the Maricopa Association of Governments — the region’s transportation planning agency — about what this technology does and what the goal of the project is.
