The Apache Junction Unified School District announced that it will be delivering both breakfast and lunch directly to students in the district during the period of online learning. The district plans to begin the delivery program on July 21.

Using funds provided by the National School Lunch and Breakfast Program, the district will utilize its school bus drivers to deliver affordable food to those students.

“Many school bus drivers around the state, if not the country, are probably going to be laid off if there’s no students to work with,” said Bo Larsen, a spokesperson for the district. “So, this is a way we’re able to keep them employed for a while.”

Larsen added that there will be no change in pricing for parents purchasing meals for students, and that some families are able to apply for free meals through the federal program. The district will also continue to offer fresh vegetables and milk to the Apache Junction community every Thursday morning, a program that started this summer.
