The Show's Points of View series presents different points of view from the community in roundtable form.

Two African American scholars are watching the protests against police violence unfold this week in Arizona and across the country.

Rashad Shabazz is an associate professor in the School of Social Transformation and a faculty lead for Justice and Social Inquiry at Arizona State University. Lois Brown is the director of the Center of the Study of Race and Democracy at ASU and an ASU Foundation professor of English.

They spoke about the words we use to describe the protesting happening now, the history of assembly for people of color and the years of systemic violence against African Americans that has led to this point, as well as their reactions to this moment — the death of George Floyd and the unrest that's been seen since.
