A state representative is encouraging Arizona churches to open their doors and let the congregation inside.

As a founding board member of the Champion Christian Church in Yuma, Republican lawmaker Tim Dunn said his church has held video services since Gov. Doug Ducey’s stay-at-home order came down in late March.

That changed to in-person sermons on Sunday after the law was clarified.

“We had hand sanitizer as you came in, we had everybody wearing masks, we had people holding the doors, so no one's touching the doors ... the ushers brought people in and they sat down row by row, we sat families together,” Dunn said.

The church board made the decision only after Dunn said he met with Ducey and after State Attorney General Mark Brnovich had ruled that churches are constitutionally protected as essential services.
