Arizona boasts of many women who’ve made history both in the state and on the national stage. We all know the impact that Sandra Day O'Connor and Rose Mofford had, but in The Show's Women of the West series, we highlight some of the lesser-known women whose stories shaped our state's history.

Meet Betty Fairfax.

Her name might sound familiar, since it’s on a high school in the Phoenix Union High School District.

She was a longtime educator, spending time both in the classroom and as a counselor.

The Show spoke with Akua Duku Anokye, the associate director of Arizona State University's School of Humanities, Arts and Cultural Studies, who knew Fairfax.
