The chief justice of the Arizona Supreme Court has issued an administrative order that applies to all courts in the state. The order gives authority to the presiding Superior Court judges in each county to take action as needed in response to the coronavirus pandemic.

Supreme Court spokesman Aaron Nash said most courts have moved to telephone appearances where possible.

"They’re limiting people who come into the courthouse at all to just essential hearings or personnel,” Nash said.

Nash said no new jury trials will be scheduled until after April 17 or later.

He said people with scheduled hearings should call the court first to check on their status.

Supreme Court oral arguments for this week have been vacated and the court will decide those cases based on documents that have been filed.

There are oral arguments scheduled for April but Nash said that could change.

Nash said all information pertaining to courts statewide is being posted in a central location on the state Supreme Court’s website. For more information on courts throughout the state, go to azcourts.gov/covid19.
