The 2016 presidential election was frustrating for Democrats and progressives on many levels, but one that is a recurring theme has to do with the Electoral College.

Hillary Clinton won the popular vote, but Donald Trump won the Electoral College. And that has led to a growing number of people calling for changes to the system — or completely blowing it all up.

Neither seems likely to happen, but that hasn’t quelled the frustration.

Professor Edward Foley of Ohio State University has written about how the Electoral College was created and what modifications today would actually make sense in his new book, "Presidential Elections and Majority Rule."
