Arizona State University School of Music just won first place in the National Opera Association’s competition for its production of Leonard Bernstein's "Mass."

One of the grandest, most elusive musical productions of the century is Leonard Bernstein’s “Mass.”

And now the Arizona State University's School of Music just won first place in the National Opera Association’s competition for its production of the epic play.

It took three years, and more than 300 people to make it happen.

But production coordinator Brian DeMaris says it was all worth it. DeMaris is an associate professor and artistic director of music theater and opera in the School of Music at Arizona State University’s Herberger Institute for Design and the Arts.

He told The Show that Bernstien’s “Mass” is one of those pieces he’s always wanted to produce. It wasn’t until he came to ASU, though, that he knew he had the resources to make it happen.
