Arizona’s top law enforcement official is trying to stop a local attorney from suing the lodging industry under the Americans with Disabilities Act.

On Tuesday, Attorney General Mark Brnovich filed a motion to intervene in a new batch of lawsuits filed by Peter Strojnik in federal court on behalf of a man from Casa Grande.

This isn't Brnovich's first legal fight with Strojnik.

Earlier this year, a Superior Court judge dismissed more a thousand similar lawsuits against Arizona businesses after Brnovich intervened. Strojnik brought those suits on behalf of a nonprofit called AID, which alleged a range of violations under the state’s version of the ADA.

Now Strojnik has filed about 60 new lawsuits in federal court.

The Attorney General’s Office hopes to have the court declare Strojnik a "vexatious litigant," which would limit his ability to bring these lawsuits in federal court, as well.

Strojnik told KJZZ recently that ADA violations are an "industry-wide problem," and he’s trying to make sure more businesses comply with the law.
