Arizona’s Clean Elections system has been under attack since it was approved by voters in 1998. It’s still alive, though some of its meatier provisions have been cut back.

Now the Arizona Advocacy Network and other groups are fighting back against SB1516, which exempts some organizations from laws that require them to register before they can spend money on elections. It also allows them to avoid disclosing to voters who provided the cash in the first place.

Joel Edman is the executive director of the Arizona Advocacy Network.
