The website Backpage.com settled a sex trafficking lawsuit brought by three girls. They had alleged the “escort” section of the site made it possible for them to be sold for sex. The website had argued it was immune from sex trafficking lawsuits under the Communications Decency Act.

According to a Senate report, Backpage had $135 million in revenue in 2014 — with a majority of that generated by sex-related ads.

We learned more about the settlement and how far-reaching it could be from Dominique Roe-Sepowitz, Associate Professor in the ASU School of Social Work and director of the Office of Sex Trafficking Intervention Research.
