Phoenix Mayor Greg Stanton has announced he’s running for Congress. Stanton announced his candidacy for the state’s Ninth Congressional District on YouTube. The announcement came a week after Congresswoman Kyrsten Sinema launched her Senate bid.

In the video, Stanton positioned himself as someone who helped rebuild the economy after the financial crisis, and as a proponent of innovation, education, equal pay for women and LGBT rights.

"Washington is a mess," Stanton said in his announcement video. "Politicians sell themselves to the highest bidder doing everything they can to protect a rigged system that works against the rest of us. I’m running for congress because we deserve better than what we’re getting."

Stanton’s website Stanton For Arizona is already soliciting donations for the mayor’s campaign. Stanton was first elected mayor in 2011, and was re-elected in 2015.
