The Diamondbacks are in the postseason for the first time in six years.

They clinched a postseason spot Sunday with losses by the Cardinals and Brewers. Then won 3-2 over the Marlins in Phoenix after JD Martinez singled with the bases loaded in the ninth.

Manager Torey Lovullo has the team in the playoffs in his first season as manager.

“Work so hard. You do all that you can on a daily basis to make these moments happen," Lovullo said. "And I’m going to enjoy every piece of this that I possibly can”

All-star first baseman Paul Goldschmidt said “We’ve been working really hard. When you go into the off season, your goal is to find a way to get into the playoffs. So, you know, we’re one step closer, we want to win the World Series, we want to keep going. But, we’ll definitely just enjoy it now”

The Diamondbacks will host the National League wildcard game next Wednesday, Oct. 4.

It's the sixth time Arizona has advanced to the postseason in its 20 year history. The other years were 1999, 2001 (World Series champions), 2002, 2007 and 2011.
