The Phoenix Police Department will hold its first round of written exams of the year on Friday.

The department is hiring 300 new officers over the next few years, after the recession led to a hiring freeze. Cody Tellep is an Assistant Professor in the School of Criminology and Criminal Justice at ASU and says the new officers will help - but he says good policing isn’t just about the size of the force.
