Kenna Draxton started dancing at Ballet Arizona in 2003.

Kenna Draxton has been dancing pretty much since she was born. Her mother owned a ballet studio in Rapid City, South Dakota, and, pretty much as soon as she could walk, she was there.

She went on to study ballet at the University of Utah’s Department of Ballet and at the Pacific Northwest Ballet School. In 2003, she got an opportunity that would make her career and joined the company under artistic director Ib Andersen at Ballet Arizona.

She’s been dancing here ever since. It's been 14 years of blood, sweat, tears and, of course, calluses.

Now, after becoming one of Ballet Arizona’s longest-running dancers, Draxton is retiring at the age of 35.

So, what’s next?

Draxton talked about her plans for the future as she was preparing for her last performances with the ballet. And, she gets it — this is a weird life transition.
