In what could easily be labeled an “unusual” town hall, Congressman Ruben Gallego, who represents Arizona’s 7th District, stepped into the 2nd District on Tuesday night in southern Arizona as a fill-in of sorts for Rep. Martha McSally. Gallego and McSally are in different parties — and McSally didn’t ask Gallego to make the appearance.

In fact, it’s likely she wasn’t too happy about it. But Gallego did it anyway, as part of #AdoptADistrict.

We spoke with Congressman Gallego about what his goals were, and we got perspectives on the overall strategy from Kyle Kondik. He analyzes House elections for the University of Virginia’s Center for Politics.
