Arizona Department of Child Safety Director Greg McKay addresses reporters on July 30, 2015.

Two years ago when Greg McKay was chosen to lead Arizona’s Department of Child Safety, the agency was struggling with protecting neglected and abused children.

State lawmakers had approved funding increases, but progress was slow.

DCS says there has been a significant turnaround in dealing with backlogged cases over the past 18 months.

We spoke with DCS Director McKay about the proposed change and the current condition of the agency.
