Rhodes scholarships have been awarded by Oxford since 1903.

The recipients have included David Souter in 1963, Bill Clinton in 1968, Bobby Jindal in 1994, and Rachel Maddow in 2001. Late last month, the 2017 class was announced.

One of the 32 Americans chosen is Valley resident Oscar de los Santos, who is the only Latino scholar in the class.
