Suns legend Majerle resigns

January 22, 2013

The Phoenix Suns’ recent head coaching change has also led to the departure of a team legend.

Last week, the Suns came to a mutual agreement with Head Coach Alvin Gentry to go in another direction. That left Gentry unemployed following five seasons as the Suns’ leader.

General Manager Lance Blanks decided to name Lindsey Hunter interim Head Coach for the rest of this season. Hunter had been working in the team’s player development department.

The choice didn’t sit well with other Phoenix assistants—particularly Dan Majerle, who played for the Suns for eight seasons and was a fan favorite. Majerle resigned today, rather than coach under Hunter.

The Suns currently have the worst record in the Western Conference with 13 wins and 28 losses. Their next game is Wednesday night in Sacramento against the Kings.
