Consumer Confidence In Arizona Drops

Published: Tuesday, November 12, 2013 - 3:24pm

A new poll shows consumer confidence in Arizona dropped last month, after two straight quarters of increases.

The Rocky Mountain Poll found consumer confidence at 66.9 in October, down from 72.5 in July. Last month’s was the lowest reading since October, 2011.

Officials with the Phoenix-based Behavior Research Center, which conducted the survey, said since Arizonans were asked in the wake of the federal government shutdown, that may account for at least some of the drop. They said it could have a negative impact on the holiday shopping season, but the center also said since the government reopened and federal workers are back on the job and news that Apple is expanding its operations to Mesa, could mean an uptick in consumer confidence.

Maricopa County reported the highest consumer confidence in the state last month. Rural parts of Arizona had the lowest.
