Why Arizona Youth Minimum Wage Proposal Appears Dead

A controversial bill that would allow employers to pay young people less than the minimum wage appears dead at the Arizona Capitol.

Lawmakers agreed on Monday it would need a three-fourths majority vote of the Legislature — a hurdle it would almost certainly fail to clear since Democrats have opposed it from the beginning.

They argued the bill would change the voter-approved law raising the state’s minimum wage, and now it appears legislative attorneys agree.
