About 120,000 Arizonans who are on medicare or medicaid will soon be required to follow a new rule in order to keep their free health care. It’s called the “community engagement” requirement, and it was approved for Arizonans on Friday.

Those with that requirement will need to complete 80 hours per month of work or job searching, school, training or community service. Not completing those hours could lead to a suspension of their health care for two months.

The Show spoke with Swapna Reddy. She’s a clinical associate professor at ASU’s College of Health Solutions.

EDITOR'S NOTE: Reddy's place of employment has been updated. The program Science of Health Care Delivery that was previously listed no longer exists.
