The new year means a new raise for many workers in Arizona. The state minimum wage will increase from $10.50 to $11 per hour, as part of a voter-approved goal of $12 by 2020.

But the city of Flagstaff is already jumping up to $12 on Jan. 1, and the minimum wage will be $15 by 2021.

Last month Flagstaff City Councilwoman Eva Putzova told The Show  the city’s economy has expanded since the minimum wage started rising and the number of businesses has grown.

“So clearly increasing the wages does not have a negative impact on the business climate,” she said.

So then why are a number of small business owners and employees worried about this next bump in wages in Flagstaff?

The Show talked about it with Julie Pastrick, president and CEO of the Greater Flagstaff Chamber of Commerce.
