Who's Funding Arizona's Ballot Initiatives?
Should voters be told who is bankrolling an initiative?
The question arose in a Maricopa County Superior Courtroom on Monday when the attorney for APS, the state’s largest utility, argued that the ballot initiative, Clean Energy for a Healthy Arizona, which wants 50 percent renewable energy by 2030, didn’t note it was funded by California billionaire Tom Steyer.
But that isn’t the only question about initiative nuts and bolts before the courts. That same Monday, a different Maricopa County Superior judge ordered lawmakers to give voters more information on the changes the Citizens Clean Elections Commission wants to make.
