During rush hour this morning a homemade bomb went off at the New York Port Authority bus terminal in Midtown, New York City.

No one died and so far only three people are reported to hurt with minor injuries. The suspected bomber sustained more injuries.

NPR’s Amita Kelly is in New York City and is reporting on what we know so far about the attack and the suspect.

Kelly was at the the press conference where New York City Police were describing what we know now about the suspect’s connections to any terrorist groups.

We’ve learned recently from The Associated Press that law enforcement officials are saying the suspect was inspired by the Islamic State Group, but apparently had no direct contact with the terrorist group.

New York City has reopened its subways amid heightened city-wide security. We’ll continue to monitor the story and keep you updated throughout the day on KJZZ.  And thanks to NPR’s Morning Edition for assistance with the audio this morning.
