If you’re looking for a spot downtown to watch Monday morning’s solar eclipse safely and with experts, the Phoenix Astronomical Society is teaming with the Arizona Science Center for viewings in Heritage Square.

Specially filtered Solar Telescopes will be available for the event. In Central Arizona, the sun will be about 60 percent obscured when maximum coverage peaks at 10:33 this morning.

Even though Phoenix is far from the path of totality, Terri Finch with the Astronomical Society said nothing like it will be seen in the region again until 2044 and 2045.

“Total solar eclipses are rare and there are no total solar eclipses seen from Phoenix in the next 100 years, Finch said. "So unless you are going to be a hundred years older than you are currently and make it to a total solar eclipse, I suggest you get out there.”

Eclipse-related events at Heritage Park are from 9 a.m. to noon.
