Phoenix Domestic Violence Fatality Review Team Releases Annual Report
More than 7 million American women and men are victims of domestic violence in the U.S., according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
And the Violence Policy Center reports that every day in the country, nearly 3 women are murdered by a romantic partner — either current or former.
In the Valley, the Phoenix Police Department investigated nearly 17,000 domestic violence-related situations in 2016. And the city of Phoenix’s Domestic Violence Fatality Review Team recently issued its annual report, which includes facts, figures and a focus on one particular case that featured elements often seen in domestic violence investigations.
To learn more about what the Review Team learned, we spoke with its Co-Chairs Riann Balch and John Collins. Balch is director of Phoenix’s Family Advocacy Center, while Collins is commander in the Family Investigations Bureau in the Phoenix Police Department.
